Italy Target Euro 2028 Qualifying Pot Through Strong Nations League Campaign

Italy Target Euro 2028 Qualifying Pot Through Strong Nations League Campaign

    0 0

Italy are working to strengthen their position ahead of the Euro 2028 qualifying draw as they continue their Nations League 2026–27 campaign under Roberto Mancini. After facing Turkey twice, along with Belgium and France, the Azzurri remain focused on securing a strong finish in their group. Their performances so far have kept their hopes alive, with qualification preparations becoming an important priority for the national team.

Finishing among the top three teams in their Nations League group could prove crucial for Italy ahead of the Euro 2028 qualifying draw scheduled for December 6, 2026. A favourable seeding position would give them a better starting point in their bid to reach the tournament, which will be hosted by England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Although reaching the quarter-finals remains a key objective, Italy also recognise the importance of avoiding a lower group finish.

The Nations League format offers different consequences depending on a team's final position. The top two sides advance to the quarter-finals, while the bottom two face the risk of relegation to the second division. Teams finishing third have an opportunity to remain in their current tier, although their fate depends on their results compared with other third-placed sides. For Italy, maintaining a place near the top of the standings is therefore essential to their broader international ambitions.

One encouraging moment came when Italy earned a 1-1 draw against France away from home. The result highlighted the team's ability to compete against a squad filled with talented players while maintaining a balanced approach in both attack and defence. Mancini was pleased with the collective effort, particularly the team's willingness to create scoring opportunities despite the quality of their opponents. Italy also recorded a victory over Belgium, giving them further reasons to approach the remaining fixtures with confidence.

Italy will return to action in November, hosting France at the Stadio Meazza in Milan on November 12 before travelling to Belgium three days later to complete the group stage. Mancini, who returned to the national team after stepping down in 2023, has a long-term contract running until 2030 and remains determined to restore Italy's standing in international football. A strong Nations League finish would provide a valuable foundation as the Azzurri pursue a favourable Euro 2028 qualifying draw and prepare for future major tournaments.
